As yet, no pre-1600 Scottish Gaelic examples of the name used for women have been found.
An individual who may be female or may be male is mentioned in Black: "In 1476 the lands of Ardere in the barony of Glastray were resigned by Mariot, daughter of Molmoria M'Kesek (RMS, II)" (Black, s.n. MACKESSOCK). This is probably from a document in Latin, although it may have been in Scots.
Annals of Ulster (U913.1) list "Mael Muire ingen Cinaedha m. Ailpin". This may be the daughter of the Scottish King Cinaed mac Alpin (Kenneth Mac Alpin).
